In order to carry out and succeed in our mission, we place value and importance on the strengthening and growth of scholars in the following areas:
Scholars are provided with rigorous, self-paced, standards-based learning paths through mathematics, science, humanities and literacy content. Our goal is for every child to achieve 1.5 years of growth in an academic year, which we have made great strides towards, as evidenced by our assessment data.
In order to achieve these goals, emphasis is placed on foundational skills, and all scholars only progress when they meet standards (at least 80%). Learning is customized and tailored to meet student needs, which allows scholars to tackle high-school and college level concepts as early as sixth grade, depending on their strengths and diligence.
Along with rigorous academics, our scholars are coached into the performance character traits that ample research has named critical to long-lasting success: grit, optimism, curiosity, zest, social intelligence, self-control, diligence and gratitude. Whether it is urging a scholar to show grit when faced with a challenging problem or modeling zest towards learning, coaches are constantly monitoring, providing feedback, and customizing learning opportunities for scholars to improve in these traits.
PASSIONS & INTERESTS
Each scholar is unique and therefore deserves a personalized approach to their passions, interests, and hobbies. Through strong relationships with scholars and families, coaches are able to build individual learning opportunies that help build and provide time for scholars to pursue areas of learning that excite and interest them. Sometimes, these come in the form of units of study dedicated to these interests, and other times scholars' passions are woven into learning aligned with the TEKS. Either way, coaches are always on the hunt for opportunities and venues where each child's love of learning can be sparked.
